Bio for Christopher Miller, New MoCA Recording Secretary
Christopher Miller and his wife Emily moved to West Seattle in August of 2023. While the Millers are freshly minted residents of the northwest, they have both been “pining” to get to Seattle, in his case, since his days at Gonzaga University in the 90’s. Christopher and Emily live in the Sunrise Heights neighborhood near the Myrtle Reservoir Park water towers, and have loved getting to know their neighbors. In addition to his role as Recording Secretary with MoCA, Christopher is currently volunteering for the Green Seattle Partnership at the Orchard Street Ravine and the Seattle Chapter of the GU Alumni.
Over the past few decades in Milwaukee, WI, Christopher was active in a variety of community organizations, including stints on the boards of three different Neighborhood Associations: Bay View, Murray Hill, and Washington Heights. Outside the neighborhood, he served on the boards of SouthSide SOUP, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the Northwestern Mutual Credit Union, and the Wisconsin Chapter of the Gonzaga University Alumni Association. Some of his favorite volunteer work over the years includes: planning and operating Chill on the Hill—a summer concert series featuring local original music held at Humboldt Park; trail building events for the Ice Age Trail Alliance (one of the National Scenic Trails, one of two located entirely within a single state!); volunteering at the Rockabilly Chili fundraiser for WMSE 91.7FM; and hosting free chamber music concerts for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra at local coffeeshops.
During the day, Christopher works for Javelin Strategy & Research as the lead analyst for emerging payments technology, and has spent the last decade+ exploring the impact of emerging technologies across domains such as financial services and distance education. He previously worked at Northwestern Mutual, where he was the Director of Strategic Partnerships in the corporate strategy team and led efforts to improve NM's client payment experiences and developing banking partnerships. In a previous life, Christopher held several titles, including Educational Technology Evangelist, at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he was responsible for improving faculty awareness, adoption, and curricular integration of educational technology in ways that prepared today's Education students for careers that might last another half century! (In practice, this meant that he was using Zoom back in 2014). Hiding at the back of these experiences is his time as a graduate student and college history professor, focused on US Urban History in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Fun Facts: In his spare time, Christopher works for Major League Baseball as technical support for live game tracking activities, plays hockey in the Kraken Hockey League, acts as a Tri-Sherpa for his wife (and sometimes runs with her); together they both enjoy hiking, cycling (completed RAGBRAI in 2021 and 2023!), and travel. As a proud Gonzaga University ('96) graduate, he has learned to expect heartbreak in March.
