Description
Seattle employers must comply with new Paid Sick and Safe Time rules
New rules will take effect September 1, 2012
Beginning September 1, 2012, Seattle employers will be required to provide a minimum level of paid sick and safe time to their employees who work within Seattle city limits. The Seattle Office for Civil Rights is working to support businesses so they are ready to implement the new rules on September 1st.
How will these rules work?
The rules apply to all employers with more than four full-time equivalent employees. All employees are eligible for the new benefit, including full time, part-time and temporary workers. The hourly accrual rate depends on the employer’s size. Employees will be able to carry over a limited amount of unused sick and safe time to the next calendar year.
